About the role
We're looking for a high-performing Indigenous legal graduate to join the Telstra Legal Team. In addition to working with the Telstra legal team, you will also spend 9-12 months on secondment working in the Sydney office of Gilbert + Tobin, a top tier Corporate Law firm, in their graduate lawyer program. This is a unique opportunity, offering you exposure to both private practice and in-house legal environments over a 3 year period. You will rotate through a number of different in-house legal practice groups at Telstra, and work in the Corporate Advisory group at G+T, gaining experience and skills in different types of legal matters and transactions. You will also complete Practical Legal Training and attend CLE on a regular basis.
You will be responsible for drafting legal and commercial documents, dealing with commercial matters on behalf of clients and providing advice, all with suitable supervision. In addition you'll develop good working relationships, grow your legal skills and knowledge and receive ongoing training.

- Have graduated or will graduate with an LLB or JD by February 2018 or recent solicitor with 0-12 months post-admission experience
- Motivated and commercially focused
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment
- You must be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted as such by the community with which you are associated.
This is a role to redress the under-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the legal profession and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth). Under section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), an exemption has been granted to Telstra from sections 8 and 51 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), to advertise, recruit and employ an Indigenous legal graduate.
This opportunity is offered as a three year fixed term contract.
